WHAT IS FROZEN SHOULDER?
Frozen shoulder, also known as adhesive capsulitis, is a condition that causes pain, stiffness, and a gradual loss of movement in the shoulder joint. We take a holistic approach to help our clients restore shoulder function and prevent future issues.
WHAT IS FROZEN SHOULDER?
Frozen shoulder develops when the connective tissue surrounding the shoulder joint becomes inflamed and tightens. This leads to reduced mobility and significant discomfort. The condition often progresses through three stages:
FREEZING: Pain increases, and mobility becomes limited.
FROZEN: Pain may lessen, but stiffness persists, severely restricting movement.
THAWING: Mobility gradually improves as the shoulder begins to heal.
While the exact cause of frozen shoulder is not always clear, it is more common in people recovering from injuries, surgeries, or certain medical conditions like diabetes.
HOW WE TREAT FROZEN SHOULDER
At Move Physiotherapy, we understand that addressing shoulder pain isn’t just about treating the symptoms—it’s about restoring overall function and strength.
RESTORING MOBILITY THROUGH GRADED MOVEMENT
Frozen shoulder often leads to compensatory movement patterns that can strain other parts of your body. Our physiotherapists focus on safely reintroducing movement to your shoulder, working within your current range of motion to gradually expand it. This graded approach ensures progress without overloading the joint.
ADDRESSING RIBCAGE AND CORE CONTROL
The shoulder doesn’t operate in isolation. The ribcage, spine, and surrounding muscles play a critical role in supporting shoulder movement. At Move Physiotherapy, we help you develop control over your ribcage and core, creating a strong foundation for shoulder recovery.BUILDING STRENGTH AND CAPACITY
Strengthening the shoulder muscles is vital for long-term success. We design programs tailored to your needs, focusing on building the capacity of the rotator cuff, deltoid, and other key muscles. This ensures your shoulder can handle the demands of daily activities and prevent future injuries.FUNCTIONAL TRAINING
From reaching for an item on a high shelf to lifting a bag, your shoulder performs various movements daily. Our rehabilitation programs emphasise functional training, helping you regain the ability to perform everyday tasks pain-free and with confidence.
